Guidelines

Publication of “Guidelines for Diagnosis and Treatment of Lung Cancer/Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma/Thymic tumor”

In 2003, the JLCS published the 1st edition of the “Guidelines for Diagnosis and Treatment of Lung Cancer”. The purpose of this publication is to clarify the recommendations for the diagnosis and treatment of patients with lung cancer, malignant pleural mesothelioma, and thymic tumor to assist with day-to-day clinical practice, with the aim of extending the prognosis and improving the quality of life of patients. The guidelines have been revised several times over the years, with the latest 2020 edition, published in December last year. The guidelines published by the JLCS are compatible with the GRADE System, which is a global standard and complies with the manual for preparing clinical practice guidelines of Minds (Medical Information Network Distribution Service) run by the Japan Council for Quality Health Care. They are based on not only EBM, but also consensus, and take the form of response to questions from the frontlines of clinical practice. We believe that they provide practical guidelines for responding to areas with still insufficient evidence.
